The de-evolutionary power that was Devo is back. The band has recorded it's first new song in 17 years for an ad for Dell Computers. The band now have plans to create a full-length music video and are talking about a new CD once they have the material. The band is still comprised of the Mothersbaugh and Casale brothers... only the drummer (where applicable) in the position in flux.

As previously stated, one of my favorite bands is Duluth, Minnesota's Low... here's an animated video of "Hatchet"  (sorta) from their latest CD, Drums and Guns. The audio version here is the "Optimimi" version, not included on the CD. This is the Mimi sung version, far superior to the album version (sorry, Alan). When I bought this CD from the local cool record store, this version was handed to me in the form of a vinyl 7" single. Thanks to Mooneyham for putting the digital version in my paws.

Over at flickr.com, where I have two photos sites, is the amazing photography of Hans Proppe (who posts under the name Shadowplay). One of Proppe's favorite subjects is his collection of broken and abused dolls. Here is a recent video he made featuring music from CocoRosie and Beth Gibbons.

If you weren’t one of the millions of listeners to the podcast of The Ricky Gervais Show, then you really missed something special. Gervais and creative partner, Stephen Merchant created the podcast through Guardian UK as a thank you to the fans of “The Office” (both UK and US versions) and the HBO series, “Extras.” The (perhaps) unexpected result of the podcast was the emergence of Karl Pilkington as not only the star of the show but something of an internet phenomenon. Pilkington is an engineer, producer that Gervais and Merchant had met on another project. His world views and philosophies are (as Gervais put it) “unencumbered by erudition and impervious to logic.” Karl believes what he reads on the internet and and in weekly tabloids. One of the most popular segments of the first season was “Monkey News,” featuring a Pilkington “true” story that illustrated his obsession with primates. This is an animated version of one of those segments, the audio is straight from the original show. Gervais released this as a free video podcast inbetween the two podcast series.

Okay, I'm an only slightly apologetic carnivore, but this thing is nauseating even to me. It's not just sirloin art on the top. The entire thing is made of meat. Yes, that's mashed potato icing. My thanks to Big Tuna for this one.

As if this nation weren't fat enough, Taco Hell comes out with this campaign. BTW, a cop once told me that one of their favorite places to catch DUIs is outside of Taco Hell after midnight.

In this, while Mimi and Matt stand to either side of the frame providing rhythmic handclaps, Alan Sparhawk attempts to consume three-quarters of an entire cake with the aid of his hands and a couple of glasses of milk. But I rather like this, the animated version, as it has more to do with the lyrics of the song. The crude animation style and artwork are also quite nice.
